NEW BALANCE

/ GREY DAYS 2025

How we turned a universal shade into a shared local movement.

Grey Days is a global homage to New Balance’s most iconic shade, celebrating craft, independence, and urban identity. We made that homage land locally by creating an Amsterdam-rooted experience where the color moved beyond product and into culture, through community, music, and running.

The challenge

Every May, Grey Days turns New Balance’s signature shade into a global homage proving that the most subtle shade can speak the loudest. First introduced in the 1980s, grey became the brand’s answer to loud trends, rooted in urban running culture, and still synonymous with craft and independence. In 2025, the theme ‘Grey State’ positioned grey as a catalyst for clarity, inspiration, and balance.

Our challenge was to translate ‘Grey State’ into something that resonated locally. The Grey Days had to move beyond product drops and become a weekend that the communities who shape local culture wanted to join.

The community insight

Within Amsterdam’s creative ecosystem, relevance moves through people, not platforms. The runners, DJs, photographers, and tastemakers set the pace. These communities value brands that actively participate in culture. Not by telling stories, but by creating moments where people can connect, move, and express.

 The idea

So to make Grey Days locally relevant, we treated Grey like culture, not color - something that has to be lived to be understood. We created Grey Days Amsterdam, translating ‘Grey State’ into a weekend where the shade lived through sound, sweat, and connection.

Anchored in the city’s music, running, and creative scenes, the weekend centred around a pop-up hub: a place to experience the collection, discover local photography, share great food, and spend time in the scene. Not a drop. A space to gather, where ‘Grey State’ could be experienced, not explained.

The roll-out

Grey Days Amsterdam unfolded as a curated sequence of moments designed to make ‘Grey State’ tangible across the city.

At the centre was a Grey Days pop-up: a physical hub where community, culture, and craft came together through collabs with local heroes and places.

Across the weekend, guests explored the collection, discovered a local photography exhibition, shared food, and stayed, turning the space into a place to connect, not just pass through.

Friday opened with a community breakfast by Stacks, followed by a live performance from BNNY Hunna that set the tone early. Food by Larry’s and Zero Zero kept the hub in motion throughout the day, carrying the energy from daytime into the night. As evening fell, Grey Days moved beyond the pop-up. Together with Patta, the celebration extended into Amsterdam nightlife at Benelux Bar, where music and movement pulled the community even closer.

Saturday began the way Grey Days was meant to: in motion. A 5K community run hosted with Bambas brought runners through Amsterdam’s streets, a shared expression of performance, wellbeing, and connection.

By translating a global platform into a lived, community-first experience, Grey Days moved beyond visibility and became something people chose to participate in, powered by credibility, cultural fit, and real buy-in.
